Our school community is committed to individual academic achievement and character development in a safe, orderly, and respectful environment.  We place high academic expectations on our staff and our students; holding each other accountable for our teaching and learning.  Students at Holmes are provided with a balanced instructional program that is aligned with the Lincoln Public Schools and Nebraska Department of Education curriculum standards.  We strive to be safe, respectful, and productive in our community and adhere to the guiding principles: it is never okay to be hurtful and it is never okay to be disruptive.  Honoring diversity, unique strengths, and talents of each student guides our planning for student successes.   We believe in providing an environment that challenges everyone to become the best person and contributing community member possible.  Instruction + Effort = Success.

What a great honor it is to work as Principal of Holmes Community School!

High academic and behavioral expectations are promoted to students and staff; holding each other accountable for teaching and learning. Students at Holmes are provided with a balanced instructional program that is aligned with state and Lincoln Public Schools curricular standards. We will strive each day to be safe, respectful and responsible and adhere to the guiding principles: “It’s never okay to be hurtful and it’s never okay to be disruptive.”

The dedicated staff of Holmes is inspiring! Teachers show they care deeply for their students by working hard to help them be successful! Our priority is on student learning, insuring that every student is challenged to achieve to their potential!

Holmes Community School serves approximately 400 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. We currently have three sections of students at each grade level (K-5). 53% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Specialists serving Holmes’ students include vocal music, art, library / computer science and physical education. Students may start a structured Strings program in fourth grade, and Instrumental Music in grade five. Our school counselor provides social and emotional student programming, both in a whole classroom setting and with individual students. Additional programming includes math and literacy intervention support, AM/PM Early Childhood, Reading Recovery, TeamMates Mentoring, Husker Connect, After School Academic and Enrichment Clubs, Chorus and the Food Bank Backpack Program.

The Holmes Parent / Teacher Organization (PTO) provides wonderful opportunities for school involvement. The PTO supports our students’ educational experience through volunteerism and financial support. PTO meetings and events are held throughout the school year. Our school also partners with Family Service to provide before and after school childcare services, and the Holmes Community Learning Center that provide numerous academic and enrichment clubs, activities and family events.
