A Message from the Principal
Our school community is committed to individual academic achievement and character development in a safe, orderly, and respectful environment. We place high academic expectations on our staff and our students; holding each other accountable for our teaching and learning. Students at Holmes are provided with a balanced instructional program that is aligned with the Lincoln Public Schools and Nebraska Department of Education curriculum standards. We strive to be safe, respectful, and productive in our community and adhere to the guiding principles: it is never okay to be hurtful and it is never okay to be disruptive. Honoring diversity, unique strengths, and talents of each student guides our planning for student successes. We believe in providing an environment that challenges everyone to become the best person and contributing community member possible. Instruction + Effort = Success.
Holmes Elementary is a Title I School serving approximately 350 multicultural students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. We currently have three sections of students at each grade level K-5. Approximately 7% of our students participate in the English Language Learner program. 55% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch services. Specialists serve Holmes students in music, art, library/media, physical education, and computer classes. Additional programs offered include math and literacy intervention support, AM/PM Early Childhood, Reading Recovery, TeamMates Mentoring, Husker Connect, After School Academic and Enrichment Clubs, and Food Bank backpack program.
There are many ways for families and community members to become involved at Holmes. Two of the best are through the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) and SNAC (School Neighborhood Advisory Council). Our PTO works to support our students’ education through volunteerism and financial support from fundraising. PTO meetings and events are held throughout the year. Holmes Elementary also partners with Family Service to provide before and after school services, numerous academic and enrichment clubs after school, as well as family event nights throughout the year. Please, take time to view additional links on our website to learn about upcoming events.
